4. Shipping/ Trade Terms

Q1. When will I know the date my vehicle will sail?

A1.
When your vehicle has been booked for shipment, our shipping department will send you shipping notification via e-mail or fax, indicating the estimated time of departure (ETD) and estimated time of arrival (ETA). The shipping companies have different schedules depending on the port of destination and seasonality. It usually takes around 4 weeks to secure the booking of the vessel. Please contact us for more details on estimated shipping times. Once you have been informed of the estimated shipping date, you should contact your local clearing agent or shipping agent to confirm the final arrival date before you collect your vehicle.

Q2. Which documents will I receive?

A2.
Once the vessel has departed from the port of origin, we will send the B/L (Bill of Lading), Commercial Invoice, and other necessary documents to your consignee address or clearing agent. Please contact your local clearing agent or shipping agent to find which documents are necessary.

Q3. When will I receive my shipping documents?

A3.
The shipping department will send you the shipping documents via express courier (DHL etc) a few days after the vessel with your vehicle leaves Korea.

Q4. Can I track my documents once they have been dispatched?

A4.
We usually use DHL for sending documents. They provide a tracking number on each package. You can use this number to track the package on the DHL tracking system.

Q5. What is the customs clearance process?

A5.
Once the vehicle arrives at the port, it will be your responsibility to perform customs clearance. If you are not in a position to clear the vehicle personally, you can hire a local agent to perform customs clearance. Please contact your local clearing/forwarding agent for the necessary steps to be followed. For the vehicles with Durban as the destination port, the use of a clearing agent is compulsory. Unless you have a preferred clearing agent, we will send the documents to our preferred agent.

Q6. Why do you need my physical address?

A6.
The physical address is a requirement that has been set out by the shipping companies and courier companies that will be involved in the delivery process.

Certain ports, such as Durban, and regions around the world require the consignee to have a physical address on the bill of lading. This is because many vehicles are simply transiting through certain ports.

Any discrepancies involved with consignee details can add to delays. So it is best to ensure the correct consignee details are listed.

In addition, when all vehicle documentation has been received, we will send these important documents to you by international courier. These courier services such as DHL and UPS also require a physical address in order to deliver the documentation correctly to you.

We do understand many nations do not have a physical address. If there is no physical address where you live, please include your street or building name and provide the nearest village or town name together with the P.O. Box address.

Q7. How long does it take for my vehicle to be shipped?

A7.
Shipping companies have different schedules and the booking time depends on the port of destination and season. It usually takes approximately four weeks to book the shipment for your vehicle. The sailing time lasts usually from 2 to 5 weeks, depending on the port of destination and season. We cannot guarantee any exact delivery date for the vehicle before the booking is completed, please contact us in advance if you have particular necessities.

Q8. What does “Final Destination” mean?

A8.

Q9. What does “Consignee” mean?

A9.

Q14. What is “RO-RO Shipment”?

A14.
Shipment by RO-RO (Roll on-Roll off) can offer a cost advantage over container shipments. RO-RO vessels are designed solely to carry cars and vehicles and do not carry any general cargo or bulk commodities. All vehicles are secured in their respective bays and are isolated from the elements during the sea passage. Ro-Ro shipment is not available for every destination.

Q15. What is “Container Shipment”?

A15.
Shipment by container covers almost all ocean ports in the world. The vehicles must be loaded and professionally fastened in the containers to avoid damages in case of rough weather conditions during the transport on the vessel. Usually the freight cost is more expensive than Ro-Ro shipment.
